A ruptured Achilles tendon can be highly debilitating, frequently necessitating surgery for direct tendon repair. As the most commonly injured foot tendon, the Achilles is a thick, fibrous tissue connecting the calf to the heel bone, located at the back of the leg. Injuries often occur during sports activities, though other causes exist. Following a complete Achilles tendon tear, treatment typically involves four to six weeks of casting and physical therapy.
