Hammertoe is a condition where one or more toes contract into a claw-like shape towards the foot, typically excluding the big toe. It results from an imbalance in tendons and soft tissue, causing discomfort when wearing shoes due to pressure on curled toes and irritated knuckle skin. Without treatment, hammertoe progressively worsens, leading to increased pain in the toes and the foot's ball.
